“A laugh-out-loud, hold-your-breath series. Perfect for fans of Stranger Things, Sookie Stackhouse, and the Princess Bride.”

A high schooler’s life goes off the rails when she inherits a house with a murderous past along with an outrageous crew of supernatural rejects . . . and a killer boy who’s determined to keep her alive.

Eila Walker knows luck is not a friend, so she’s downright shocked to inherit a million-dollar Cape Cod home. And yeah, her new town isn't perfect the cheerleaders are heinous clones, the local rip current can kill you, and apparently her Great Grams was fried by lightning in the harbor square. Still, Eila is hopeful her luckless days are in the past.

When Raef O’Reilly becomes her friendly shadow, Eila thinks life is pretty darn perfect. But just as her new hometown starts to feel normal, a beach bonfire party turns into a nightmare when she’s hauled beneath the waves by an undertow WITH ARMS. Raef, no longer able to hide the truth from Eila, must come clean she’s possibly the last of her kind, a supernatural assassin who should be able to wield the power of human souls as a weapon, just like her murdered Great Grams.

Soon Eila finds herself under the protection of Raef and an outrageous crew of supernatural allies. Unfortunately, she’s now the hottest Must Have on the supernatural black market, and the teenage gang that is trying to guard her is woefully lacking . . .

Undertow eBook KR Conway

A very creative, interesting book.

I enjoyed the budding romance between Eila and Raef, and could sympathize and root for them as they struggled to overcome their differing natures.

The storyline was unique, and the natures of the characters were very well explained.

The book wraps up most loose ends and can be read as a standalone, but leaves an opening to continue into book 2.

I pulled an all-nighter to finish this one, and it was well worth the read.

Still debating whether I want to continue the series, though, as there are already two more novels out and a fourth appears to be in the works.

**Edited to add that I did, indeed continue the series, and it is phenomenal! Action packed with lots of twists. Book 4 sounds like it is going to be awesome. Love this series.**

Undertow eBook KR Conway Reviews

The first in the series this story has a great original plot line going on. The characters are interesting (MJ being my favourite) and also there are a couple that are cliche stereotypes this probably won’t deter the average teenager from reading the story.

The story really goes into overdrive about half way through - so best clear your night to accommodate finishing it (cause at that point you feel a bit compelled to find out what’s going on).

Solid first novel - interested to see where it’s going to move in book 2.
I read this on a recommendation of a friend who is completely obsessed with this book. I trust her book choices and boy, I was not wrong. I won't say I'm in obsession territory, I leave that to any book by Diana Gabaldon or JK Rowling. But, this was very very good.

First of all, it takes place in Cape Cod, which I love. Stories there have the benefit of such a rich and cute setting. Makes me want to go there. Eila moves there with the woman who's been raising her when a mysterious mansion is bequeathed to her. It's supposedly the home of her family, of which she is the only survivor. What she doesn't know is the family secret it holds or the secrets the town holds.

Disappearances abound as soul suckers take their victims from the population of the town. But, not all soul suckers are bad. Some can be your over-protective, secret keeping friend who only wants to keep you safe.

There's a bit of insta-love, which is kind of annoying, but the way it develops past that point is its redeeming factor. The characters are rich and likable. The story is intriguing. I'll definitely be sticking with this series.
This book was recommended to me by a couple of people whose judgment I trust, and it did not disappoint.

This story was, in many ways, two different stories - in the beginning, teenage girl Eila walker is just a typical high-schooler, adjusting to life in a new town and a new school after being mysteriously given a magnificent house belonging to her ancestors. She has to deal with the snotty mean girls of the school (including one deliciously awesome scene) and a bevy of hot guys that seem to be vying for her attention.

And then... enter the weird stuff.

Turns out Eila is a Lunaterra. The last one, in fact. Her forebears have waged war against soul-sucking hellspawn for centuries, a war that the evil creatures are on the brink of winning. With the help of her more-than-they-appear-to-be friends, Eila must discover the nature of her very existence before the powers of darkness snuff out her light forever.

I love stories about "typical" kids achieving great things, never forgetting that they are still kids, with all the awkwardness and self-deprecation that comes with it. Eila is a great YA heroine, and though her immediate attraction to the Greek-godly Raef is a little bit cliche, it didn't much detract from my enjoyment of this fine novel. I will be moving on to the next book very soon.
Entertaining

This stand-alone is easy to follow. There are editing errors but no graphic violence or drag-you-down drama.

Intriguing storyline with paranormal aspects. Descriptive writing that draws the reader into each scene. Believable dialogue and characters with distinct personalities.

“I’ll be fine,” said Ana and I realized that ‘fine’ could mean a variety of things. Between Ana and I, I could see it becoming our go-to word with about ten levels of “fine.”

No desire to re-read this story. I may be interested in other works by this author.
